In principle, an air conditioning system can be retrofitted in a car. However, this is normally a very complex process that has to be carried out by a professional team at your local Volkswagen retailer.

The active combination filter is an important component of the ventilation system in your Volkswagen. If the filter is dirty or blocked, the air in the vehicle interior can no longer be sufficiently cleaned. This may cause components of the air conditioning system to become contaminated by fungi and bacteria, which may lead to unpleasant odours.

A heavily clogged air filter impedes the air supply and therefore prevents cleaner, more efficient and trouble-free combustion. For your car, this means a reduced engine performance and potentially higher fuel consumption.

A blocked oil filter may result in increased fuel consumption, reduced engine performance and, in the worst-case scenario, engine damage.

Since it functions like a sieve, it can become clogged over time. That’s why it should be changed on a regular basis. Your Volkswagen retailer will gladly change the filter according to the service interval.

That depends on the filter. Air, oil and active combination filters have different functions and different maintenance intervals. Since filters are wear parts, they should be checked in accordance with the service interval. There are various advantages to using a heat pump in electric cars. It regulates the cold and heat supply as efficiently as possible and can therefore reduce the load on the high-voltage battery, which can increase the range.

The heat pump condenses a liquid coolant at high pressure. This results in heat that heats up the air flowing through the pump circuit.

The structure of the air conditioning system in an electric vehicle differs only slightly from that of a combustion engine vehicle. The air conditioning system is more compact and is located partly in the front of the vehicle instead of exclusively in the interior. This creates additional leg and foot space.

They also function in a similar way. The fundamental difference lies in the power source for the compressor. In vehicles with a combustion engine, the compressor is driven via the engine; in electric cars, there is a separate electric motor in the compressor of the air conditioning system. It converts the direct current from the high-voltage battery into an alternating current, which in turn is used to heat the interior. The benefit: The air conditioning system can also be used when the engine is switched off.
