Every diesel Volkswagen model since 2009 comes equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
The particles filtered by your DPF are trapped, stored and disposed of continuously as you drive. For this process to work the car needs to be driven at a constant speed for a specific amount of time. Short journeys with lots of stopping and starting may mean particles are not fully disposed of. You can solve this by taking your car for a longer drive every so often. If you typically travel short distances in heavy traffic, a petrol, hybrid or electric car might be the more suitable option.
